Bi-metal screws

A bi-metal screw joins two metals in a single fastener: an austenitic stainless steel body (A2/A4, SS304) welded to a hardened carbon steel drill point (SCM435). The stainless body resists corrosion for the life of the building; the hardened point does the drilling that stainless alone cannot do.

This is the fastener to specify where a plain stainless screw would fail to penetrate the substrate, and where a coated carbon steel screw would not last long enough: coastal and marine environments, swimming pools, chemical plants, and any roof or facade expected to outlive its fixings.
